BSE

The importance of Brest Self-Examination (BSE)
hey girlies, im really hoping that no one else can read this blog, because i am talking about breasts. I cant stress enough about how important it is to do Breast self examinations every month, because last thursday, i found a lump in my breast. now dont freak out. I got it checkecd out by the doctor and its just a cyst( a fluid filled thinger that is because of a blocked duct or something) thankfully, its totally harmless, the only thing is that it might cause me pain, and i really cant do anything about it. its aabout as harmful as a headache. but im only 17,what if it wasnt a cyst? and i didnt catch the lump? and what if it was cancer? This is why im telling you guys to do breast self-exams. i know some people are really sqeemish when it comes to breasts, even touching your own, *cough*sam*cough* but really encourage you guys to check it out and get to know your own breasts. because now that i have had a cyst, i cant tell wether there are others forming, becuase i dont know what my breasts usually feel like. Yeah, i didnt want to freak you guys out, and i dont want you guys freaking out about it, because like i said, its just about as harmless as a headache. but seriously, BSE's are REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT!

Love you guys!, Leanna

oh leanne. i love you. only you could talk about breasts and not make me feel weird.
but actually, you do bring up a very real concept that we as woman have to actual think about. i don't think we should dwell in it because that might lead to another stress and fear that i don't think is beneficial. but in saying that, we need to be aware of that fact that cancer of any kind is huge and it affects so many people and its a thing that maybe, sadly, one of us might have to face.

leanne, hope this isn't too awkward, but what exactly does the lump feel like? is it extremely noticable to you or is it something we actually have to "feel" for...?

yeah, i totally was like, i dont care if i talk about breasts, IM JUST SO GLAD I GET TO KEEP MINE! yeah, boobs are so totally not awkward at all anymore, im just so thankful that i get to keep them and dont have to lop mine off, and when i went to he doctor, it totally wasnt embarrassing becasue i was just like, you know what, thank goodness its not cancer. I like my boobs and really appriciate them.

To answer your question erin, its probably different for every woman, but mine hurt when i got it, so thats how i noticed mine. it was roughly the size of a golfball and squishy because it was fluid filled. My lump came in like 2 days, and is almost dissapeared. but that is only for a cyst. im guessing that if you found a cancerous lump, it would be alot smaller, and it woulnt get as huge as mine as fast as mine did. yeah. thats why it is so important to get to know what your breasts feel like , because it may not be a huge lump to start out with, but if you know your breasts, it will eel out of place like "hmmm... that wasnt there before" but if you find weird lumps the first time you do BSE's, dont freak out, its probably a normal part of you.

My lump however, was realy huge, and i noticed it right away. I had no doubt in my mind that it was a lump, i always worried before about lumps when i my BSE's, but when you find a lump, you will know.

My doctor said that solid lumps (the more likely to be cancerous type) feels like when you stick your tounge into your cheek and feel it from the outside. yeah, but mine started out golf ball size, and in two days shrunk to the size of a large pea. Yeah, she said that doctors are only really concered about lumps that grow bigger and never decrese in size.

I hope this dosent scare you guys, but if you ever feel a lump, dont hesitate to ask me and go to the doctor the next day. (when i found mine, it was like 1 oclock at night, before i went to bed). TELL YOUR MOMMY! she'll know what to do.
